Happy Wednesday Fellow Scribes,
Did anyone see the NYTimes article yesterday that Producer David Brown passed away on Monday? I only bring it up because Mr. Brown was a champion of the story. He started his career as a journalist and in 1951 Hollywood legend Daryl Zanuck hired him to run the Story Dept. at 20th Century Fox. David Brown produced "The Sting," "Jaws," "The Verdict," "The Player," "Chocolat," "Angela's Ashes" and many more.
I never knew Mr. Brown personally, but Aaron Sorkin was quoted as saying that he was "The last great gentleman in Hollywood." I got that heresay too from my sister who is an actress and auditioned for Mr. Brown several times. She absolutely raved about him every time telling me what a kind, kind soul the man was.
Anyhoo, just wanted to share a ditty about a true Hollywood legend. If you can grab the Times it is a beautiful article. Just sad that his passing went almost unnoticed in the media. He was a legend.
Cheers, Janie

A shame. He was a phenomenal producer who seemed to champion the creative vision of the directors and writers. Wish there were more like him around today.

I've asked my friend Tom Benedek, who wrote Cocoon (which Brown produced) to write something re his experience with Brown.
