Bt Stacjks - here's the gist of my narrative, saving the major story plots. Teenage hoop phenom (Protag) with aspirations of greatness (Goal) inadvertently subdues a child predator, causing PTSD. After visiting with a cruel and unethical specialist (Antag) he's suddenly able to discern the cries of children in imminent danger of being abused. After being banished from his high school team he joins an AAU traveling team (Situation). He must make a decision (respond to the cries of the children or altogether ignore them) when the cries of the children pierce his ears, even while in the midst of establishing himself on the court in front of the awestruck scouts and recruiters as the nations foremost elite player (Stakes). He reluctantly succumbs to the cries of the children, and stamps out child predators abroad -- for how long? -- thus is the journey/dilemma of -- "THE YOUNG DELIVERER." Mcsherer - "who's the antagonist and what's at stake?" The antagonist - the cruel and unethical Specialist/Doctor. The stakes - a collegiate and professional hoop career, and more importantly, the welfare of the endangered children. Thanks guys for your invaluable insights -- anxiously anticipating some more feedback.

nickyneophyte,
I would have to disagree with you as to who is the antagonist in your scenario. You wrote: This is not a person who would be standing in your hero's way or keeping him from his goal. The specialist would be more in line with a MENTOR type character. He helped your hero.
I would argue that the antagonists are the child predators as they stand in the way of several of your hero's goals: a collegiate and professional hoop career, and more importantly, the welfare of the endangered children. (your words).
You need a single antagonist for the audience to hate, not a gaggle of child predators, characters who will be hard for the audience to keep straight in their heads.
One man's opinion; mileage may vary; batteries not included.
