So 2010 was a horrible year financially for me. Like everyone else, work was slow for our company. As an employee who relies on a commission for the work that I do, I was broke!
The first three months of 2011 have been MUCH better for me financially...but it has SUCKED that I have not been able to read or write much lately. Working 12 hour day is great for the wallet, but horrible for the part-time screenwriter.
I finally have continued my work on OFFICER DOWN, and I plan to finish that sucker before July. I will be turning 40 this year and I made it my goal to finish my first script before my 40th birthday.
I have been in the mood to read a few scripts and write up some notes, but I don't see many that have been posted recently so I am offering myself up! If you have a draft you are working on, let me know and I will read it and type up some notes for you.
You better get in there quick before my boss decides to give me some new, ridiculous project.
Happy writing!

Hi, Brain. Sorry to see you in the state so many are in but I'm glad that things are looking up for you now. I had a similar kind of 2010, as did many of the people I know.
Gave me a lot of time to write though, which I used to finish my latest draft of my first script, Almost Crimes. It's in the Completed Drafts forum if you're interested (there's a slightly updated version in a post at the bottom of the first page). LF and bstacks have given me some great feedback but the more the merrier.
I also paid for notes from Amanda the Aspiring Writer, which if after you read it, you want to take a look at to see if her service is something you'd ever want to use, I'd be more than happy to send her notes to you.

joea,
I would be happy to look it over and give you some notes. I don't know if there is anything I can add, but I will give you my own perspective on it. I won't read the other notes until I am finished, that way if we all see the same things, you will be able to identify the problem areas.
I would be happy to read Amanda's notes when I am finished. It would be nice to see how a professional writes their notes. I'm sure I could learn something from them and it never hurts to improve, whether it be writing scripts or notes!

Thanks, Brian. My deepest appreciation in advance. Actually, I don't doubt you'll have a different perspective since so far -- everyone has! It all goes back to William Goldman's famous adage -- no one knows anything. Part of it so far seems to come down to genre preferences. Almost Crimes is a thriller in the vein of, say, Enemy of the State (replace the technology focus with a medical focus), and that's just not everyone's bag. Yeah, I'm more than happy to provide Amanda's notes to whomever reads my script (they wouldn't make much sense otherwise). I know a lot of people consider using her so I'm happy to send them along, even if at points her comments are somewhat less than flattering. If you want to avoid that thread altogether here's the copy I sent her. Attachments:
