Okay, people. Put on your thinking caps, pull out some pens and pencils, grab that legal pad and get to writing!
This month's challenge is very generic, open to interpretation and all genres. Ready?
Write a short script (under 5 pages) about a New Year's resolution gone wrong. Simple, eh?
Deadline will be January 31st and the winner will be chosen by you, the GITS Club members. Have at it. Have fun. And always,
Keep Writing!

Hi, there. Well, I know I'm too late. Again. But I had that idea for the December challenge. A piece of Christmas fan fiction featuring my favorite TV show, "Dexter". The title "Sinister Sleeping Santa" is a reference to the novel title "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" (and Sinister even is the opposite of Dexter...) ain't I crafty? I felt guilty of not participating and I wanted to do it enough that I sat down and wrote it. It turned out to be a tad long (13 pages), but I had too much fun with the characters and I was already too late so I thought, what the hell. So I'll post it here as long as you guys wouldn't mind. If there are any one or two Dexter fans around who would like to read it, and would even be so kind as to give me feedback, it would be much appreciated. So pour yourself a warm cup o' Joe, load up some Dexter soundtrack on YouTube and (I hope you do at least a little) enjoy. The January challenge entry is in the making. Attachments:

Had an idea for the challenge. Turned out to be too long, again So I posted it on the short film board, for those who are interested. Let's see if I can come up with something that fits into 5 pages...

hey, it's me again ;D ("Oh hai, Marc!" Thommy Wiseau would say now) a little off topic: I made a poster to go with the script for "Yin". I thought I might post it, since this thread is booked under "Inspiration" and it's not all too serious. And I felt inspired Attachments:

I guess it's time to say farewell to the monthly challenge?
Too bad, I liked it. And had hoped more people would have participated. Like the Halloween challenge. It's fun to read a bunch of different approaches on the same theme. Maybe if the winner gets rewarded with something... maybe he/she can pick the new topic or gets a review of one of her scripts from all the fellow participants or something like that.
I don't know. Maybe it is just time to say godspeed and R.I.P.

I agree Marc, it is sad. I feel a bit guilty as I've never been inclined to create/post an entry, even though I know that creating treatments is a vital skill for a screenwriter to master.
It seems obvious that people don’t upload for the monthly competition. Would people be more willing it were to be made quarterly, perhaps? Just a thought.

Yeah i don't know how to get this to work... maybe no real deadlines? keeping themes open so one can add anytime... on-going voting? ehh? I'm always happy to stop and take a break for thinking/writing with these challenges. It may be too soon to have monthly's..
Maybe voting on a theme from the beginning could get people more interested in writing what they want to write. but at the same time, there is just a lack of participation on the forum overall (i'm one of the bad ones myself)... But it just needs more member input and participation that's really all it is.

Marc, Shawn, Dwight,
The demise of the monthly challenge rests solely on my shoulders. Should have been out there pushing it more than I did.
But, I do agree a quarterly challenge would be much more doable and allow members more time to be creative. And, I like the suggestion that members should vote on the theme. That said, I propose the following:
I will open the floor for suggestions for the 2011-Second-Quarter Challenge -- time frame: now until Sunday, March 27th. Members would be able to vote for their preferred theme until Thursday, March 31st. The No-Prize Contest would begin on April 1st and continue through Sunday, June 19th at which time members would vote for their favorite entry. Simultaneously, and at the same time ;D, I would open up voting for the next quarter’s theme (June 19th thru June 30th).
Any thoughts? Concerns? Questions? Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.
Keep Writing!

Theme, eh?
How about a quick poll of the main themes (action, romance, comedy, horror, etc) and see which one people choose.
If push came to shove I'd probably go for either horror or fantasy - let imaginations soar!

I'd probably enjoy voting on a detailed theme instead of just genres.. Like stuff revolving around "a gun", "a death"... random stuff.. even... "a man's beard" hehe.
but broad enough to have everyone interested.
