This turned out to be tougher than I thought -- so many very good entries . You folks really had your thinking caps on and imaginations running at full bore. But....... There has to be a limit on the number of scripts up for the final vote. I originally wanted three, maybe four, but there where just too many good scripts to choose from. Voting ends on Wednesday, November 3, 2010, so........... Read the finalists. Vote for your favorite. Let's see who wins the NoPrize Prize for the Halloween Writing Challenge. And thanks for playing.

I enjoyed the one where the girl triggers the zombie transformation by accidentally saying "brains" in her sentence. Idea sounded familiar, but not sure... but that one read the cleanest. I enjoyed others.
It was fun reading them all. I wanted to change mine up a bit, but ran out of time. Definitely, enjoy this new "writing challenge" section.

Peter,
That one was mine. The whole "BRAINS" thing was a tribute to the Living Dead movies where they're always saying it while gnawing on some poor bastard's skull. In the story, I thought it'd be neat to allude to psychological testing and then have her trigger that in him. Anyway, thanks for the compliment.

Yeah i liked the trigger. Made me wonder if i'd seen that zombie idea done.. but so far it's all you. Got my imaginary vote . Eagerly awaiting the next challenge... These are perfect for helping me blow off my own screenplays

Enjoyed them all. Really like the range of genres and the spins writers put on ideas that seemed headed into cliche.

Mike,
I've read all the scripts from the other thread and I think next time we need to define the challenge a bit better.
I took the one-line description very literally. One girl, one zombie, one room. I think it's more difficult to write within those limitations, and I think the challenges would be better suited to those limitations.
Not at all upset about not getting chosen, but some scripts use the challenge as an afterthought, and I'm not sure how to vote or think about stories that primarily take place outside of the challenge.

We have a NoPrize Prize winner ;D Congratulations to Matt Compton for his winning entry And Then the World Changed. Matt wins the official GITS Club NoPrize Prize -- when I figure out what that is, I'll let you all know Thanks to one and all for participating -- you all did an awsome job. As for the next challenge, stay tuned. I haven't decided on the subject matter or genre, but I will let you know shortly. And -- and this is a big AND -- I have to agree with napolyphonic's comment about keeping your scripts within the parameters of the challenge. In the future any script that does not fall within the parameters of the challenge will be disqualified. Thanks again to all you screenwriters who participated and Keep Writing!

Wow! I'm genuinely surprised and enormously flattered. I shall cherish my noprize prize for always - it's lovely, just lovely. Thank you to all who voted! I really enjoyed being part of this challenge and I really enjoyed reading all the other entries. It's really intriguing to see the same premise being treated in so many different ways. Looking forward to the next writing challenge. PS. If anybody's interested, I shot my script for And Then the World Changed and it's uploaded on Youtube here: youtu.be/u_Ul_3QTzjwIt's a little rough and ready due to the fact that I was acting, directing, operating camera, DOP'ing, doing the make-up and editing and also had to make some changes to the script due to basements being in short supply on the second floor. Still, it's kinda fun - enjoy.

Congrats, Matt!
And fantastic film, by the way. Not at all what I pictured. If this was more like 23min, I would've mistaken it for an episode of The Twilight Zone.
