Can anyone help me with a format question?
My screenplay opens with a "montage" establishing my lead character. I'll give you an abbreviated version:
Movie Magazines scroll across the screen against a dark background. All featuring my lead character RM on the cover.
Red Carpet entrance to film premiere. Screaming fans, autographs, Cameras flashing etc
Fans waiting outside hotel.
RM being sneaked out back of hotel.
Paparazzi mobbing RM in the street.
Photographer with long lens taking covert shots of RM on holiday.
Trashy tabloid magazines dropping into a waste-paper bin.
My question is.... Is it okay to do this as a montage or should I do a series of mini scenes giving scene headings etc. If so what do I show as a scene heading for the magazine sequences?
I hope this makes sense.

Hmmm...
Not sure I can help on this one. You could try to say something like credits roll and then write Begin Montage --
Just write all this stuff up that you said and then at the end point...
Credits end.
Montage ends -
I also think as long as you write up flash on screen a magazine cover...(you are probably okay.)
I do have a question though -
Is this montage to show who your character is? If so - I'm not sure I would show who your character is in a montage right at the beginning. What I mean by that is - I would give them some depth by showing what they are like - maybe in a scene or something....
Of course opinions are all different - so...

Thanks for the response.
The premise behind the montage opening is more to highlight how celebrities are treated nowadays. Although it shows a fair bit of my lead character it's more about the media attention. The way stars are put up on a pedestal just so they can be knocked off!
It didn't even occur to me that I was lining up an ideal sequence to run credits over but I can see this clearly now.
Thanks for your help.

Wow. I was going to ask where's the script itself and here's the thread! I wouldn't do the montage. Or is your script really political? I thought it was rather about the people, not celebrities. I associate montage in the beginning with movies about mafia or something, or dystopian sci-fi - "At the beginning of the 21st century... oil prices dropped."

Maybe once I'm happy with the draft I'll post the opening and then you can understand better what I'm going for.
