I am currently reading a Rom-Com for someone on the boards and part of the way through the script this question popped into my mind:
Will a male reader prefer the script to be leaner, but a female reader allow for more detail in a script?
I know in general, women prefer a lot more detail in the stories that they read. Would the same apply to a script? Would they allow more detail in a script or do they want it lean and mean as well?
Thoughts?
To the women of the GITS boards, what is your opinion as you read scripts? Are you more tolerant of details?

Hm. Is this a statistical exaggeration? I mean there are all kinds of male writers, at least (who I have the most experience with), and some kinds of female writers. I don't think Agatha Christie strikes me as too wordy. The script, most of all, should be readable. I just asked my sister, and the same for her, and also she says for her the genre is the most important (she doesn't like action).

I don't think there's much of a difference between male and female readers to tell you the truth. I don't like too much description in a script. It makes me feel like the writer is insecure about their ability to convey information, or like they don't trust me enough as a reader and are trying to hold my hand by describing every little thing. I agree that genre is important to me as a reader though- I don't like reading romantic comedies when I can avoid them.
In general for me, the leaner, the better. I'm a huge fan of Sofia Coppola and I hear her "Somewhere" script ran around 80-something pages. So I'm not sure that I'd say women prefer more description.

MyBrain,
Don't think there is much difference between the sexes when dealing with Hollywood Readers. Regardless of their sex, either will recognize and recommend a great script whether it is lean or full of details.
One man's opinion -- mileage may vary -- batteries not included.
