Hi All, Just thought I would start a topic about Twitter usernames. We could share our own or writers/filmmakers/any other people of interest we follow. My username is @gordondon twitter.com/gordondon

Latka (err, Gordondon), Twitter -- Facebook -- MySpace!? More typing at the keyboard without producing any scripts Seriously. Does anyone use these tools to further their writing careers? And if so, how? I think this would be a useful / interesting post. Any takers as we all, Keep Writing!

You can call me Kyle, if you like. Being a film fanatic I use Twitter to follow lots of studios to keep up to date with what is going on and also to look at current trends in regard to genre. Also, I follow people who can make me laugh by using just 140 characters. It is the process of having a comedic thought and then paring it down to its bare minimum without losing the impact that I really like. Obviously, I also follow the GITS feed

I am also on Twitter. twitter.com/MyBrainHurtsMike, Twitter is really what you make it. When I became serious about my writing, I knew there was one thing I really needed to do since I now live in Canada. I needed to network. I am not going to run into an actor or director at my local coffee shop here, but I CAN do that via Twitter. I have received a TON of knowledge from writers, readers, directors, producers and others that share little nuggets of the industry. I continue to develop relationships with these people so one day, maybe they can assist me in getting my script read. Will it work? Time will tell, but in the meantime I am learning a lot. Twitter can help from a different perspective as well. I was working on a script about a reporter. In the scene I was writing, the reporter needed to have a discussion with his superior. I then realized I had no idea who that would be. I searched on Google for an hour, to see if I could determine who would be a field reporter's immediate superior. I couldn't find what I was looking for. Since I follow lots of reporters on Twitter and converse with them frequently, I decided to ask one of them. Within five minutes I had my answer. Now that scene is accurate. I have to also mention that it has helped in editing scripts. When you only have 140 characters, you learn to only say what NEEDS to be said. Same principle can be applied to writing scripts. What is helpful is that people on Twitter put links to articles or websites that have more information. So you may get a little nugget, or you may get a treasure. Either wait it is still learning. Every Sunday night at 8 PM EST, I participate in #scriptchat. (www.scriptchat.com for more details) This week MISERY will be analyzed. It's a great place to network and meet other writers. Some are aspiring, some have sold scripts, some have had their scripts produced. Other informative people: This guy looks familiar! : twitter.com/GoIntoTheStoryWriter/Producer - twitter.com/tylerweaver - www.imdb.com/name/nm3390684/bioWriter/Director - twitter.com/johnaugust - www.imdb.com/name/nm0041864/17 yr old that wrote, and is directing her first feature - twitter.com/MJ_Slide - www.indiegogo.com/The-SavingDirector/Producer/writer - twitter.com/grking - www.imdb.com/name/nm2966708/ - grking.com/blog/I have had direct conversations with some of these people. Sometimes about movies, sometimes not. Here are some links people have shared the past few days related to screenwriting/movies. thescriptlab.com/the-formula/structure/the-scene/19-scene-exercises?start=10sites.google.com/site/tvwriting/jonathan-peace.posterous.com/pages/home-hBwncwomc.radio.com/2010/09/30/become-part-of-detroit-1-8-7/womc.radio.com/2010/09/30/become-part-of-detroit-1-8-7/Does it help my screenwriting? Sometimes. Does it help my screenwriting career, I believe it will. Can it be a time waster? Oh hell yeah. Does it inspire me to keep writing. Most definitely. P.S. I hated Twitter prior to my joining. I thought, who wants to read about people doing mundane things? Who you follow is key. If someone isn't informative, I stop following. Some are brilliant in 140 characters.

I have a couple of different Twitter account. One is @bay51media www.twitter.com/bay51media, which is the account that I will post updates about my work. Since my forthcoming web series is our first bit of new content, there's not much of an audience yet, but I hope that it will allow another method of interactivity with my audience. I'm not that active on twitter though. In other news you can check out the teaser to the said web series here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=DWbba1Qi7Qg or at www.bay51.com Enjoy!

I'm on Twitter, but I haven't been very active and I don't really post about screenwriting too often (it's mostly related to my journalism). www.twitter.com/brianhaas

MyBrain, Thanks for the extensive post. Sounds interesting enough that I will probably take the plunge once this selling a house -- moving into extended stay hotel -- buying a house -- moving again -- comes to a merciful end. ;D Thanks again and Keep Writing!

Mike,
BLEH! Good luck my friend. I hate moving. You definitely have a lot on your plate. If you have any questions later on, I am always around to ask.
Stay strong through this difficult time!

Okay, got bored at the hospital -- yeah! on top of everything else my mother-in-lay, who lives with us, took sick -- anyway, I took the plunge and signed up for a Twitter account. Who'da thunk it? Haven't had a chance to play around with it yet, but soon -- very soon. My 'handle' -- or whatever you call it -- is schererwriter. Very original. Tweet you all later, but in the mean time, Keep Writing!
