I just wanted to remind everyone that a "thank you" goes a long way.
The GITS board is a place where writers can come together and give each other honest, constructive criticism. We all have other jobs or other projects that we are all working on, but we come here to volunteer our time to help one another.
Personally, I have learned a HUGE amount since I have become a member here. I hope that I can help others learn as well. I am very grateful that this place was created.
I work 40+ hours a week, and I have a two year old hurricane that I chase after before and after work. I really do not have a lot of free time. If I am lucky, I get a few hours here and there to either write, or read. I have even figured out how to read scripts on my Blackberry so I can read scripts as I rock my child to sleep every night.
That being said, I willingly volunteer to read scripts that are posted here, and I do my best to give thorough notes so that another writer here can improve. I would estimate it takes me 4-5 hours to read and write notes for each full length script. I do this for free.
In my current employment, I charge $140 per hour. Should I apply those same rates to the time I spend working on someones script, it would cost $560-$700.
I don't want your money. I genuinely want to help you build a better script. In return, I get to continue to build my own knowledge of the craft, which makes me a better writer as well. The way I see it, it is a win-win.
All I ask is that you say thank you. I am sure others that read scripts here feel the same way. Currently, there is a script that is posted here, where the writer is very appreciative. Even though two others are already helping him, I want to jump in and help too because I know whatever I do to help will be appreciated.
Others are not very appreciative. Because my time is limited, if you cannot say thank you, than I do not have time to read your work.
You may not agree with all the notes someone gives you, but you can at least thank them for their time and their hard work.
