Hi, guys! I'm new to scriptwriting in general. I just got out of high school, and I'm going to college in the fall. I'd like to say that I'm full of dreams and aspirations bigger than the world, but I don't want to be naive, here (not that I don't want to be successful at this, don't get me wrong).
Anyway, I'm a huge fan of serialized television, from the top of the big-budget totem pole (24, LOST, etc.) to the lesser-known, but just as hyped shows (Mad Men, Twin Peaks, Six Feet Under, Dexter, etc.). My point is that I love story. I think it's awesome how an episodic story works, what with the cliffhangers and the long, long periods of development, and the way each season of a show has to be different than the last. So, I thought that I might try my hand at writing some sort of semblance of an episodic story.
24, which I mentioned earlier, is (if you don't already know) a suspense/political-thriller which just ended in May of this year. Each season is presented over the course of 24 hours in real-time, with an hour of the day being shown each week (with the exception of double episodes, which account for 2 hours).
I know The Simpsons has done an episode parodying 24 called "24 Minutes," and there are a couple of "24 Minutes" series on YouTube (most of which look and feel very amateur), so I wondered if I could make something like that, but upping the ante at the same time. I wanted mine to be well thought-out, with an exciting story and an awesome ending. I also wanted it to be comedic in nature, because I both love and find 24 ridiculous at the same time.
My "24 Minutes" is done in real-time (kind of), in that not every episode will be exactly the amount of time specified. I wanted the show to take itself very seriously, while at the same time making a fool of itself, gimmick-wise.
There are 12 episodes being written, each encompassing 2 minutes of a 24-minute period in the life of the following characters:
PROTAGONISTS:
Mack Gauer, the hero and protagonist, retired agent of C.T.U. (Cereal Terrorist Unit)
Kate Price, Mack's fiancé and daughter of the President and First Lady
Dick Johnson, the President of the United States
Mark Wheeler, Dick's Vice President
Sarah Johnson, Dick's wife
Tim McCallister, C.T.U.'s Head of Operations and former co-agent with Mack
Carsyn O'Malley, a tech-savvy Systems Analyst of C.T.U.
ANTAGONISTS:
(there are more antagonists than this, but from Episode 1, these are the ones introduced)
Bre, a henchman working under someone else, hired to steal the country's reserves of Total cereal
Henchman 1, one of Bre's subordinates, a large, bumbling guy who does all the punching
Henchman 2, the computer genius who helps block satellite imagery to secure a clean getaway when nabbing all the Total from the country's Grocery Store.
I know I'm rambling at this point, so I'll just get down to it. The format of these scripts is wrong, I know that, but I'm learning that part on my own. I just wanted to see what all of you guys think about this story. Story is something that I'm fascinated with, and I'd love to get some feedback on what has been so much fun to write. I hope that shows through the scripts. This is my first real endeavor when it comes to scripting, so I know it's not the greatest thing in the world - I had fun writing it (I'm about to write the finale now!!!), and I hope you have fun reading it.
