Sorry for that slight extended absence folks. It was for a good cause. I'm collaborating on what appears to be a righteously "multiplexy" screenplay... deeply rooted in the grand tradition of satisfying, rollicking afternoon at the movies type stuff. All new for me. As I've stated in the past, the bulk of my 20 year catalog are daffy and quirky comedies and dramas. Even my forays into genre stuff (horror/sci-fi) are skewed towards the offbeat.
I consider it (and a few others which I shall toil away on this summer with this newfound writing partner) my FIRST SCREENPLAY. I know that sounds goofy after all these years but I'll be damned, I've never really approached a project with such an eye on audience satisfaction and providing that good solid THRILL RIDE that we are supposed to deliver. Regularly. Always.
So, um, folks, feel free to nursemaid me through these new and slightly scary waters of BIG screenwriting.
Other than that, not much shaking 'round these parts. Wisconsin is now toasty warm and basking in what appears to be summertime. (I say 'appears' because, to those of us who live here, it's all very dreamlike, a sun-drenched alternate universe)
Anyone see anything decent lately? I'm using this list:
mubi.com/lists/1917?from_theauteurs=1
and watching all the Criterion titles which stream from Netflix. Enjoyable and cost effective way to take a trip around the world via cinema. Just starting out, I'm on #3 today, BLACK ORPHEUS, which I saw many years back but only recall the jumpin' Antonio Carlos Jobim soundtrack.
Did HARLAN COUNTY USA a few days back (REQUIRED VIEWING!!!) and Polanski's KNIFE IN THE WATER over the weekend.
Polanski absolutely needs to fry for his deeds but boy, that dirty dog can make a picture. Knife in the Water is masterful.
So that's the news 'round here. Hope you all are progressing on your projects nicely. Until next time....
