Hey another question/opinion/reference gathering:
Who would you say is the best prose writers to read for screenwriting?
I'm picking Raymond Carver because of his spare, clean prose style.
The perfect prose writer to glean from would probably writer like Carver, observe characters like Munro and plot like Stephen King. Gotta find that person.

Why not look at it from the other end -- read screenwriters that also write prose -- William Goldman comes to mind. I know there are several others, but off the top of my head I, for the life of me, can't think of'em.
