Okay, Folks. You asked for it. And here it is!!
Announcing the 2011 Second Quarter Writing Challenge!!
Here are the rules for winning the coveted and highly sought-after, NO-PRIZE Prize.
The NO-PRIZE Contest will begin now (I know, technically still the First Quarter, so sue me) and continue through Sunday, June 19th at which time members will have a chance to vote for their favorite entry. Simultaneously, and at the same time ;D , I will open up voting for the next quarter’s subject matter (June 19th thru June 30th).
Script length: 3-5 pages. (thanks Marc).
This quarter’s subject will be theme. I am posting a list of themes to choose from rather than vote on one that not all members will feel comfortable writing about. And what are those themes?
Glad you asked:
Crime Does Not Pay. Overcoming Adversity. Friendship requires Sacrifice. The Importance of Family. Death is Part of Life. Sacrifice Brings Reward.
Pick and choose, mix and match. Just put your thinking caps on, get creative and always,
Keep Writing!

Glad to see a relaunch of the writing challenge What about length? Maybe we should add something like a random line of dialogue that should be included somewhere in the script by anybody who enters the challenge. Just a suggestion.

Nice examples of some great themes Mike.
This should be an interesting challenge and very hard to judge.

Alas, no one entered the last contest -- sigh! I was asked by the membership to increase the amount of time allowed to write their Challenge scripts (there was a contest each month) so I went to a quarterly challenge giving writers three months to come up with a five page short. No takers. Consequently, I never posted a third-quarter challenge. Now, I would be happy to do so IF members are willing to participate. Please let me know as you all, Keep Writing!

Since it is so time consuming and emotionally draining to write something and be judged on it, why dont you try a smaller challenge this time around? I have been gone for a long time, but have you had any logline contests or challenges to write an awesome first act? I think more casual writers would get involved with that.

attatt,
This script writing challenge only requires writing a five to six page short -- should be much, much easier that writing a complete first draft.
Still, no takers.
Keep Writing!

I actually have had an idea for a while that would fit one of the themes. Let me see if I can scrape a few minutes together to get it down on paper. It may suck like Hoover, but I just may be able to win...since I will be the only entry!

Quality! No rush, but would like to have a lens at it when it's finished.

Here is my offering. The Last Dance. This is a first draft but I think I have captured the tone I wanted to set. It is 14 pages but I just let it flow as this is an idea I have had for a while. It actually covers several of the themes in the challenge. Some may find it a bit wordy, but like I said, I just let it flow. The PDF didn't upload, so I posted a link. Let me know if that doesn't work.
